The name of Lau Shui Heung was recorded as early as 1819 in the Xinan Gazetteer, which states: “At the source of the Lau Shui Heung (the sound of ... flowing water) pond, there are several stone wells, naturally formed, about two fathoms deep. In spring and summer, the water gushes out like a waterfall. In autumn and winter, it flows gently with a melodious sound.” The delightful sound of flowing water is precisely the origin of its name. On a clear day, the calm and still surface of the lake reflects the surrounding bald cypress and paper-bark forests, like a mirror, hence its reputation as the “Mirror of the Sky”. The charm of Lau Shui Heung Reservoir varies with each season, and is particularly popular during fall when red leaves draw swarms of visitors. A scene not to be missed!

Apart from Lau Shui Heung, North District is also home to other hidden gems, from the Hok Dau Reservoir nearby, to the Long Valley Nature Park in Sheung Shui. All good destinations for visitors who are in for a breathtaking view!
