Reunification Garden, located on Jockey Club Road in Sheung Shui, was inaugurated in 2009. It was established to commemorate the historic moment when the Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army entered the city via Jockey Club Road on 1 July 1997, marking Hong Kong's return to the Motherland. In the garden, one can find a plaque bearing the inscription “The mighty and civilised army” which is a gift from residents to the Hong Kong Garrison. There are also sculptures of soldiers, as well as information and photos from various events held across the New Territories to celebrate Hong Kong's return to the Motherland.

Apart from the Reunification Garden, North District is also home to other destinations reflecting Hong Kong's history. From the Hau Ku Shek Ancestral Hall in Sheung Shui's Ho Sheung Heung nearby, the Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall along the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail, to Crest Hill and Macklntosh Forts used for boundary patrol in the past, these are a must-go for local history buffs!
