Luen Wo Market, located in Luen Wo Hui, Fanling, was built by Luen Wo Land Investment Company Limited and was completed in 1951. At the time, it was the largest market in the New Territories. The market operated for 50 years from its opening to its closure.

The market ceased operations in 2002 and was subsequently accorded the status of a Grade III Historic Building in 2010. The market, included by the Development Bureau under Batch V of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme, has been revitalised to become the “Luen Wo Market – Urban and Rural Living Museum”. It has been fully open to the public since March 2024, featuring community stalls selling agricultural product, dry and wet goods, as well as restaurants, thus preserving and extending the original purpose of Luen Wo Market from the old days.

Apart from Luen Wo Market, North District is also home to other charismatic historical architecture. From the nearby former Fanling Magistracy, included by the Development Bureau under Batch III of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme, and the Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall, situated along the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail, to the Hau Ku Shek Ancestral Hall in Ho Sheung Heung, Sheung Shui, these architectural structures are all rich in history and a must-go for local history buffs!
